Types of Braces
Metal
Metal braces are made from medical grade stainless steel and are the most common type of braces used to straighten teeth. most teenagers have fun choosing coloured elastic rings to customise the look of their braces.
Ceramic
Ceramic braces are made from porcelains, and are often requested by older teenagers or adults that are concerned about the appearance of braces on their teeth. Ceramic braces are less visible, but tend to be slightly larger and more fragile compared to metal braces.
Aligner Systems
Clear aligners, such as Invisalign, are a method of straightening teeth using sequential removable clear plastic appliances (aligners). They are custom made for each individual, barely noticeable, and can be removed for eating and tooth brushing.
Rapid Maxillary Expander (RME)
The Rapid Maxillary Expander is an appliance which widens the upper jaw. It is used primarily to correct narrow upper jaws so that the upper and lower teeth meet together better. It also helps create additional upper arch space as a beneficial side effect. The appliance is more effective in younger age children and less effective with increasing age.
